Monti Inc. investing $500,000 expanding operations in Greenwood County

Monti Inc., an industrial manufacturer in Greenwood County, will expand its operations with a more than $500,000 investment, the company announced today through a news release from Gov. Nikki Haley’s office and the state Department of Commerce.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Monti specializes in manufacturing and fabricating copper and aluminum conductors, insulators and steel components.

“We’re just delighted they have confidence in the Greenwood economy and the Greenwood community to make this expansion to their existing operations here,” Greenwood County Council Chairman Steve Brown said. “We pledge to continue to work with them to make them as successful in the future as they have been in the past.”

Monti is investing in new equipment for their local facility off Airport Industrial Park Road in order to meet increased customer demand. Before today’s announcement, the project was known as “Project Laser.”

While the investment will not create jobs, surrounding businesses, such as contractors, engineering firms and suppliers working with the company, should feel the impact, according to Greenwood Partnership Alliance Board Chairman Jim Medford.

“It further cements their commitment to Greenwood County overall,” Medford said, “The trickle down effect in Greenwood is felt throughout. It is great for Greenwood County and the residents in a number of areas and the local businesses.”

With more than four decades in operation, the company opened its Greenwood facility in 2005, making it the third Monti plant in the U.S.

The facility initially focused on offering several machining and fabrication services and later added laser cutting services and computer numerical controlled (CNC) lathe capabilities.

“Our customers requested our previous additions of laser cutting services and CNC lathe capabilities to help them with local solutions and faster lead-times,” Nick LaVigne, Greenwood plant manager for Monti, said in a news release. “We have already outgrown that equipment and need to make further investments in advanced machinery to continue to better serve our customers needs.”

The new investment will include a second CNC lathe and a new C02 laser.

“This advancement in technology will increase our capabilities and quality, while decreasing our lead times, allowing us to be more competitive,” Monti Site Quality Manager Chuck Swofford said in the release.
