From Prototyping to Production: Navigating the Path to Successful Manufacturing
Getting the product development process right is crucial, especially when your company’s reputation is on the line. That’s why choosing the best manufacturing partner can largely influence your final products.
The Monti Production Process
At Monti, we understand that product manufacturing is a serious business. With our focus on understanding our clients’ needs and product ideas, we can transform your idea into a finished product ready for your business’s use.
Receiving A Request for a Quote
Monti Inc.’s production process begins with a swift response to a Request for Quotation (RFQ) within 24 hours by a member of our outside sales team. Our sales team will present your RFQ internally and our team will discuss project components, such as materials to be used, lead times, and anticipated manufacturing costs before we will create a quote of our own for your project.
Ensuring High-Quality in Our Manufacturing Process
While building our quote, our team of Sales Engineers and outside sales members will meet to undergo an advanced product quality planning (APQP) meeting, where we explore the scope of the project, including the type of manufacturing needed for the part, any tolerances that need to be met, anticipated production costs, and the desired materials. Our team will review any attached files, including clear blueprints or 3D models of the product design. They will also identify any improvements that can be made to the requested part, as well as any red flags that they believe they may encounter during the manufacturing process. With this in mind, our team will present a quote to the client for their review.
The Production Timeline
Once the quote is approved by our customers, orders are entered promptly by a dedicated Sales Engineer, initiating a production timeline of three to six weeks, depending on the product. We do offer expedited options for a fee, as we understand that some projects are essential for small business operations and require a faster timeline.
Prototyping Products
If you are interested in creating a custom order for a new product for your use, you do have the option to design a small order with Monti, where we would create prototypes for your usage and testing before you place a larger order. At Monti, we do not have a minimum order quantity — instead, our focus is on manufacturing quality products that work.
We do not outsource our product prototyping and production, instead, our in-house engineers will work directly with you. This helps ensure the protection of your business ideas and intellectual property, as well as limits shipping costs that can increase due to outsourcing.
Even if you have produced this item before with other manufacturers, we understand that you might desire samples upfront the first time you order from Monti. Our team is more than happy to provide samples before undergoing mass production to ensure that you are making the right choice for your potential manufacturer.
Transitioning Into Production
Once you receive your prototype and are ready for production, our team will receive your full order and begin the production process. Depending on the type of product, as well as the manufacturing process involved, it can take anywhere from three to six weeks until the product is produced and delivered to your business. Each order’s timeline will vary and your sales engineer will update you throughout the process.
Challenges in Prototyping
Prototyping and manufacturing products come with their own set of challenges. While issues regarding quality control are rare, they can occur. Our manufacturing team undergoes a series of quality checks throughout the production process, ensuring that your final products are of the highest quality. In addition, turnaround times may be extended due to production running behind schedule or supply chain issues, where materials are held up. If our team anticipates challenges regarding the production timeline of your product, our team will reach out to you to update you about the process.
Ensuring a Smooth Process
When entering the manufacturing process, clear communication is key, including sharing the product’s history and past issues with prior suppliers. If you are designing a product from scratch, our team appreciates as much information as possible, including information regarding similar products that you’ve produced in the past. Overall, providing clear prints with dimensions and, when possible, model files accelerates the production process and minimizes quality issues, while helping our engineers approach your order with a holistic understanding.
In addition, approaching the manufacturing and prototyping process with an open mind is essential to the creation of a high-quality product. During the design and prototyping processes, our engineers may approach you with suggestions to create better and more cost-effective products. Our goal is not to increase our own profit margin, but instead to connect our customers with affordable, custom products that make your bottom line profitable.
